3.9

Just wanted to post a quick blog about my brilliant wife Elizabeth. She has a 3.9  overall grade point average in grad school. She’s worked really hard this semester and I’m so proud of her! I’m also really glad that she’s smart cause hopefully our children will inherit that after her. :)

Go Elizabeth!!

Christaplease!!!

So about a year ago our good friend Jacinda Adams recommended that I post a blog every so often highlighting one of the awesome young leaders we have around The Life Church. So meet Christa Nel, also known as “christaplease”!

Christa is an awesome young chick! She’s definitely not your average 17 year old…she’s rep’d the SA (South Africa), the GA (Atlanta) and now her home is the 901…she’s done with High School and almost done with college and totally sold out to building God’s House. I love being around Christa cause she’s sooo cool. Her reactions and expressions are THE best! Here are also some of her one-liners!

no-no

I can had dat?

You would…

stay inside your box

can I put frosting on my biscuits?

remember when…

Anyways…I’m excited about her future and all that God has ahead for her. Christa is one of our fulltime Damascus Road interns and on our Next Gen Team (KL Worship & Axis Video/Media). She’s being stretched, challenged, and pushed, but I know she can handle it and will grow way beyond what she could have ever imagined! Keep your head up Christa and become more and more like Jesus!

Lifetime of Opportunities

The 3 Amigos preaching

This past weekend I was given (along with BJ Cooper and Johnny Hill) the opportunity to preach in one of our weekend services. I got to hold down the pulpit in the Saturday night service and help carry the Sunday morning services along with Pastor Leslie. A huge task, one that we all took very seriously. Pastors John and Leslie, along with the lead team of Ps. Dan Lord and Ps. Mundo Meneses are all incredible communicators. We are blessed to receive the preaching and teaching they give on a weekly basis. However, we all felt the nerves in the pulpit holding down the fort for them. I think we all did a great job. Gotta give a huge thanks to all the people that were so supportive and “Amen’ing” us down. A couple of people who were extremely helpful to me were:

  • My wife of course! So sweet! I looked down at her a couple of times while preaching and she had that proud twinkle in her eyes. I know, it wouldn’t of matter’d if I did a horrible job (maybe I did), she would still have smiled and made me feel like a millions bucks!
  • Katie Welch: No one can word and phrase things like Katie can! Girlfriend can hook some words up! I appreciate her for taking the time out while on vacation to help me. Thanks Katie for being a great friend through-out the years.
  • Marna Nel: Marna gave me tremendous insight on some thoughts I was running with. Marna’s a great friend with tons of ministry experience at her young age. She’s gotten to serve under some great leaders in her time. I go to Marna often for those classic “one liners” she’s learned!
Of course, Pastor John and Pastor Leslie! I could literally spend hours talking about the impact (love, grace, and opportunity) they have given me. It’s a huge honor to get to serve the vision God has given them. I wouldn’t want to serve ANYWHERE ELSE. They are my heroes and I love them with all my heart. I love serving in this House. I spoke on Opportunities, and how when we chose to chase after God we receive a “lifetime of opportunities” vs. chasing after “the opportunity of a lifetime”. I feel as if I’m walking daily in a lifetime of opportunities. Thank you God!

The Day After

The friends, food, and flowers we have had over the past few days has been awesome!  I am so thankful for the friends!  And I am so thankful for the food and flowers they have sent!  I have eaten so much over the last day…

As far as how I am feeling, I’m getting there physically.  I still am a bit sore and am hurting slightly, but I have some great pills to help with this problem.  Emotionally is another question too.  We are trusting God through all of this.  Without him, we wouldn’t have made it through all of the emotions that you experience when something like this occurs.  But with Him we have had the strength to overcome.  We are believing in a future with children and we know He will fulfill our desires.

Today I HAVE to do homework and lesson plans.  I am a week behind in school.  I didn’t go to classes last week and told my teachers what was going on and that I would be late with our assignments.  Thank God for their understanding.  I also need to think about discipline rules for my classroom and what I will tell them when I return on Monday.  I know they will ask why I was gone my first week.  Do I tell them the truth and hope that the truth gives them compassion towards me so that maybe they won’t give me as hard of a time? I dunno.

Thank you all again for all the love that we have been given!
